Student Perceptions of the Impact of English Language Films on English Language Ability

Abstract

English is an international language that can be learned by various methods, one of which is through English-language films. In this modern era, the majority of young people who watch English-language movies are becoming more and moreangry. Therefore, the study was conducted with the aim of identifying and analyzing the impact of English-language films in improving students' ability to speak English according to student perceptions. The study also aims to find out the effectiveness of English-language films as a learning medium. The researchers used methods of qualitative approaches and quantitative data by sharing questionnaires. The subject of this research is a student of the Polytechnic State Malang. The results of this study are that English-language films have an impact on students' English language skills through improved and new vocabulary understanding as well as improved English skills in general. In addition, most students also showed an interest in learning English through watching English-language films so that English language films were effective enough to be used as a learning medium in English.
